It began with just two elements – a rhythmically unfolding double-sided fan representing clarity, structure and order, and a cascading torn section symbolizing expression and chaos. I had planned to leave the work as it was – a minimalist contrast of forms, colors, ideas, and philosophies. But something was missing. The work didn’t feel complete. Several months were spent pondering how to finish it, how to refine it. However, the fear of going too far, of ruining it, was growing. After all, in abstract art, the first rule is to stop at the right time. At some point, I was afraid to even touch the surface with anything, fear paralyzed me.
Six months had passed, and the work on this painting was at a standstill. One day, as I was simply tidying up the studio, a song played and I felt an impulse. The tension reached its peak, I grabbed a marker, and drew a line across the entire work. It’s hard to describe the relief I felt. From there, everything developed rapidly. The painting changed beyond recognition, with numerous elements added, from pencil drawings to tissue paper appliqués.
And this is yet another one of my works, the creation of which symbolizes freedom, courage, and passion. It represents the understanding that everything that limits us is within ourselves.
